Overview: In this episode, I talk with mom Jasmine Turner about tapping into your inner voice in order to understand why you parent the way you do - and how to love yourself in the process.

Excerpt #1: “I have a voice inside me that isn’t kind to myself - that is critical, extremely critical to myself. And whether that be nature or nurture, I don’t think it really matters. I’ve learned to identify it, and I’ve started noticing when I’m using it towards my children. And then I got to know my other, more nurturing inner voice, that piece of me that is my true self…and I’ve gotten to know her. And as I’ve gotten to know her, she’s started coming up in the way that I parent and the way I talk to my children.” Wow - this quote hits home. Have you gotten to know the two (or more) sides to your motherhood? Have you tapped into the side that makes you feel - good? Worthy? Because when you do, you’ll start to see her everywhere.

Excerpt #2: “There was something not clicking. And I would try these band-aid solutions like parenting tips/hacks…but these things would keep surfacing, like temper was one of them. And I’d be like, ‘What’s wrong with me?’…I wasn’t abused in my childhood in any way. I did go through trauma but I’m going, ‘Why am I having this anger?’” That self-inflicted shame that Jasmine is talking about here - so relatable. We’ve all had those moments where we’ve questioned why we are the mothers that we are. Rage, for me, was the trigger. It was (and is) the place where I feel the worst, the most unqualified mom out there. As hard as it is to go through it, please know that you’re in good company.

Excerpt #3: "Any output your child is giving you - any signals your child is giving you, you take it and run it through your Mom Intuition. And then any random thought - you trust yourself. You trust yourself. If it’s color, if it’s go outside and look at rocks…whatever it is, you follow that.” Especially when raising out-of-the-box kids, you often doubt yourself and the choices you make to parent them (I sure do!). But Jasmine talks here about really owning your own thoughts - trust your gut. You know your child BEST, right? No one knows them better than you. Tap into that inner voice!

Your turn: It’s so easy to fault the parts of us that we don’t like. But what about the other side of you? What about the side you’re proud of? Talk to me about your positive inner voice - who is she? DM me on Instagram @on.the.hard.days and share your thoughts with me! You are a rockstar, Mama!
