Excerpt: “Because you show up everyday. You are always showing up. You just don’t even realize it! You think you have to be an 110% mom all the time to have any strengths at all, right? It’s all or nothing. I’m either completely on and ‘I’ve worked so hard and done my very best’ or ‘Nope. It wasn’t good enough. It might as well have been nothing.’ And that’s just so not the case.”(More below)

Overview: If you're anything like me, you often fill yourself with unnecessary Mom-Guilt. You know, the way you feel when you're rushing out the door, or you forgot to pack your child a snack, or you raised your voice when you wish you hadn't. Mothers are "on the job" 24/7 - and yet we rarely forgive ourselves for our mistakes. Instead, we hyper-focus on all the things we do WRONG. In this episode, I'm going to share one SIMPLE strategy for finding your "Mom-Strengths".

Takeaway #1: Even the most boring or miserable of parenting moments, you bring something to the table. In the example of Megan and her twins making dinner together, she was able to show up and use her strengths (delegating, organization, and a great teacher voice) to create a successful, happy moment with her kids, despite it being a chore she despised.

Takeaway #2: With a simple mindset shift, you can begin to see all the parenting strengths you have in every situation. Mothers often overlook simple concepts as being a great hugger, using a calm voice, laughing with her kids - all of those things are Mom-Strengths and should be celebrated.

Takeaway #3: I feel so much more confident as a mom when I started to really pay attention to my strengths. How do I do this? I look for what I bring to every situation, from getting the kids ready for school, to lazy Sunday afternoons, to teeth brushing at bedtime - in all situations, I show up, and so do YOU.

Your turn: Get a piece of paper, grab your journal, or open up your “Notes” app - and choose one parenting moment from the last 24 hours. It can be a big deal or an insignificant point in the day. In that moment, what’s ONE strength you showed up with? Were you patient? Did you crack a joke? Did you show your child affection? Don’t overthink it - you should have MANY more than one, but it’s a good place to start. Got one now? DM me on Instagram @on.the.hard.days and share it with me! You are a rockstar, Mama!
